Navarre Beach rang in the New Year with a couple of polar plunges, with the Pirate Plunge being held on the Gulf Of Mexico and the Penguin Plunge’n Paddle being held on Santa Rosa Sound. Both events raise money for charity. This year’s festivities saw hundreds brave the cold water.

The Navarre Beach Lifeguards recently announced they are the recipients of the Florida Beach Patrol of the Year recognition. Voted on by other Lifeguard chiefs from across the Sunshine State, the annual recognition honors excellence in ocean rescue, innovation, and dedication to public safety.

Recreational and commercial blue crab traps in all waters from Franklin County to the Florida/Alabama state line must be removed from the water before Jan. 5, the first day of a 10-day trap closure. This closure will give groups authorized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) the opportunity to identify and retrieve lost and abandoned blue crab traps from the water.

Navarre Beach will have a renewed look in 2025 thanks to crews working on the Navarre Beach renourishment project, which is being done to alleviate the effects of erosion on the beach by adding sand on the beachfront.

The Navarre Beach renourishment project is underway. Two submerged pipelines will be staged near 7631 Gulf Boulevard and just east of Navarre Towers near beach access #39A. Safety signs and fencing are in place where the pipes come onshore.

As part of the Navarre Beach Restoration Project, heavy equipment began staging on Thursday, Dec. 5 at Navarre Beach Access 37A. The access is closed to the public until further notice beginning Tue., Dec. 3.
